Varuna: 15-day Deadline Fixed To Finalise Varuna, Asi Rejuvenation Plan | Varanasi News – Times of India

Varanasi: Chairing the UP Pollution Control Board’s monitoring committee meeting to review the progress of works by the committee formed on NGT’s direction for rejuvenation of Varuna and Asi rivers, divisional commissioner Kaushal Raj Sharma on Thursday gave a 15-day deadline to finalise plan and a detailed sketch for developing the wetlands.
The commissioner also warned the concerned officials of facing action as they had already failed to ensure any progress in the works assigned to the committee over the past one year.
During the review meeting, the commissioner took serious note of the committee’s non-compliance with the work regarding cleaning of river Varuna. Even after a year, no survey has been conducted by the irrigation department and no design has been made, the official said. Expressing strong discontentment over this, the commissioner ordered to serve a notice to the concerned officials and also send a letter to the principal secretary of the irrigation department to apprise him of the developments related to the project.
Besides, upgradation of Bhagwanpur, Dinapur and DLW STPs according to the new standard of NGT was discussed during the meeting. Jal Nigam officials informed that the projects at Goithahan, Ramna and Ramnagar are being prepared as per the new standard.
The commissioner also issued a warning to officials of the irrigation department and Jal Nigam for running behind the deadline fixed by the NGT. He also asked them to complete all points related to the project within two months and submit the report on May 15.
