LUCKNOW: The UP government will continue to provide 30,000 quintals of dhaincha seeds, a kind of green manure, to the farmers on 50 percent subsidy in the upcoming Kharif season, a state government spokesperson said.
The manure was provided to the farmers at a cost of Rs 54.65 per Kg last year. The progressive farmers will be entitled to 90 percent subsidy. The spokesperson said that the green manure increases the fertility and soil’s water retention capacity, better air circulation and beneficial bacteria.
“During the last two decades, farmers have become aware about the usefulness of green manure (Dhaicha, Sanai, Urad and Moong). Therefore, the demand for their seeds has also increased,” the spokesperson said.
Deputy Director (Agriculture) Jai Prakash said that dhaicha contain bacteria that take nitrogen from the air and fix it in the soil. According to him, organic elements are the soul of the soil. “Green manure is the easiest and most effective way to increase it organically in the land,” he said.
