CBI Granted Permission for Polygraph Test of Main Suspect in Brutal Kolkata Doctor Murder Case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has been granted permission to conduct a polygraph test on Sanjay Roy, the prime suspect in the horrific rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. This development comes after the CBI conducted a psychoanalysis test on Roy, who is currently in their custody. The Kolkata Police initially arrested Roy shortly after the discovery of the doctor's body in the seminar hall of the chest department of the hospital between 3 am and 5 am on Friday.

Roy's background has become a point of interest in the investigation. He joined the Kolkata Police as a civic volunteer in 2019 and had since become known for his problematic behavior. Police reports indicate that Roy had been married at least four times, with allegations of being a "womaniser" surfacing. Additionally, a PTI report revealed that Roy is a trained boxer who had managed to cultivate close relationships with several senior police officers over the years. His connections within the police force likely facilitated his posting to the Kolkata Police Welfare Board and eventually to the police outpost at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

The brutal nature of the crime has ignited widespread outrage across the country, particularly within the medical community. There have been demands for justice and stronger legal protections for healthcare professionals. The horrific details of the crime have further fueled this outrage. An autopsy report, as cited by an Indian Express article, revealed that the victim died from manual strangulation combined with smothering. The report also indicated signs of sexual assault, including evidence of "forceful penetration/insertion in her genitalia" and numerous external injuries such as abrasions on the victim's cheeks, lips, nose, neck, arms, and knees.

As the investigation continues, the CBI has intensified its efforts, recently interrogating the former principal of RG Kar Medical College, Sandip Ghosh, for the fourth consecutive day. The questioning focused on Ghosh's actions following the discovery of the doctor's body, including who he contacted, why he made the victim's parents wait nearly three hours, and who ordered the renovation of rooms near the seminar hall at the hospital's emergency building after the incident.

This case has not only brought attention to the vulnerabilities faced by medical professionals but has also raised concerns about the integrity and conduct of law enforcement officers involved in the investigation. The demand for justice continues to grow as the nation watches closely for the next steps in this harrowing case.
