The shutdown, ordered under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Defense Code 2030, aims to maintain law and order in Udaipur city. It applies to areas including Badela, Badgaon, Balicha, Debari, Eklinpura, Kanpur, Dheekli, and Bhuwana, starting from 10 PM on Friday for the next 24 hours, excluding leased lines.
The incident that triggered this action occurred at a government school in the Surajpol police station area on Friday when one student attacked another with a knife. The severely injured student was rushed to the hospital with the help of a teacher and is currently in stable condition. District Collector Arvind Poswal confirmed that the minor accused of the attack has been detained, and his father has been arrested. A thorough investigation is underway, and Section 144 has been imposed in the city.
To ensure peace, a high-level meeting was held at the District Collector's office, attended by the divisional commissioner, district collector, SP, Rajya Sabha MP Chunnilal Garasiya, and other key representatives of Udaipur city.
The restrictions include prohibiting gatherings of five or more people, banning the carrying of weapons, and only allowing law enforcement and security personnel to carry arms. The Sikh community is permitted to carry kirpans in accordance with religious customs. The use of loudspeakers without proper authorization is also banned. Additionally, activities that could incite communal tensions, such as provocative slogans, speeches, and the display of posters or banners, are strictly prohibited. The dissemination of material promoting religious hatred or caste-based animosity via radio, tape recorders, or social media is also fully banned.
Regarding the situation, Minister of State for Home Affairs Jawahar Singh Bedham stated that a dispute between two students in Udaipur led to one student attacking the other with a knife. The injured student was admitted to MB Hospital in Udaipur, where he is currently receiving treatment under the supervision of doctors. The minister emphasized that their priority is the student's quick recovery and appealed for peace, noting that Rajasthan is a peaceful state. He added that Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma is actively monitoring the situation and staying in close contact with officials.
